  • INTEGRATION (5 videos): you'll incorporate what you've learned into full body movements,
  • FLOW (7 videos): you'll combine the lengthening and releasing focus with more thoracic mobility, strength, and core engagement,
  • CHALLENGE (7 videos): you'll bring everything together to move towards exercises you may find in a typical fitness class as well as some new self-massage techniques for your back and pelvic floor.

Hi, I’m Elyse Sparkes

I'm a Certified Personal Trainer and Core and Pelvic Floor Movement Rehabilitation Specialist.

After years as a professional dancer stuck in a stressful loop of under-eating → binging → over-exercising, I realized this cycle was destructive to my mental and physical health.

I experienced amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle) for seven years, and was worried about my reproductive and bone health.

I became passionate about healing my own relationship to my body and movement, and became a Certified Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher, and Thai Massage Practitioner to help others with their healing as well.

When I became a mom it became clear to me that I had been experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction for years and holding my "core tight" all the time (as I learned to do as a ballet dancer) was making my symptoms worse.

Since then I've become a Certified Restore Your Core® teacher and have worked with many clients and program participants to release stomach gripping. 

I created the Stop Stomach Gripping Course to help you enhance your understanding of your own body, and to help re-pattern it so that you can have optimal core and pelvic floor function.

Hourglass Syndrome is a term referencing the chronic, habitual drawing in of the upper abdominal area and might show up as:

→ a line/crease at center of abdomen

→ dimples under the ribs

→ having a hard time engaging the ‘lower abdominal’ area

→ reverse breathing pattern (belly drawing in during inhalation)

→ shallow/constricted breathing

→ tight/tense neck, chest, shoulders 

→ increased low back pain

→ worsening of pelvic floor dysfunction (like leaking pee w/sneezing, jumping, laughing)


*Please note: It’s actually less of a syndrome and more of a pattern - and you can always teach your body a new pathway!

This course can be adapted to where you're starting out in your movement journey. It progresses gradually so that you can truly embody and practice the fundamental ideas as you start to incorporate them into bigger full body movements.

There are sitting, standing, lying down options to practice all the fundamental ideas. Then throughout the movement sequences we blend it all together. 

If at any time you need a modification to suit your specific body, reach out to me and I will help you adjust! 

It’s not possible for me to promise or predict body changes as there are so many factors that contribute to that. However, the habitual tendency of stomach gripping or holding your core tight all the time, can be re-patterned with things like increased body awareness, breathing exercises, self-massage, mobility and strength exercises. We will focus on these types of shifts throughout the course.


If you do one video a day (10 min or less each) you will complete this course in 28 days. 

Since this is a self-paced online course, it's your choice to commit to finish the course in 28 days or fit the lessons into your personal schedule.

That means that you could spend more than 10 min/day and finish it sooner or you could do less and take more time to complete all the lessons.

Also, you'll have ongoing access to all the materials so you can keep revisiting them as you wish.

Yes, you'll have continued access to all materials from the course, even after you have completed all of the lessons. You may return to the videos and course material as much as you wish. 

You are welcome (and encouraged!) to leave a comment below each video lesson or email me directly with your questions. I can offer modifications and suggestions to address your situation. That being said, since this work is so specific to each person's unique body and what's happening throughout movement, there are limits to how I can help from written comments. It's possible for personalized feedback purchasing a private session on Zoom with me will be the best way for me to help.
